Mission Statement

The Augustine L. Muñoz Cancer Research Fund was founded in 1999 with a single purpose: “To aid research in the early detection of pancreatic cancer.”

My name is David Muñoz, my father Augie Muñoz passed away in June 1998 after a brief bout with a rare form of Pancreatic Cancer. As a Non-Profit Organization, the Augustine L. Muñoz Cancer Research Fund raised funds through the organization of annual Golf Tournaments and other activities. These activities were sponsored events and the proceeds were donated on his behalf to the USC/Norris Cancer Center, where he was hospitalized during his illness. Through these fund raising activities we provided doctors with the funds necessary to advance research in this area.

Although pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest forms of cancer, research in this area has been limited. As with all types of cancer, early detection is key.

After 25 successful years, we’ve decided to call it a wrap.  Although we will no longer host our annual events, please know, our entire committee believes deeply in the value of research and will continue to support cancer research, each in our own way.

Each year our events grew due to the continued support from people like you. Those who knew my Dad know that he was always one to lend a hand to help others. Thank you for helping make our events a success so we could aid others in the early detection of Pancreatic Cancer.

As a result of your generosity, we have contributed nearly $350,000 toward research over the last 25 years. Our donations have been made in Augie’s name and have kept his legacy alive for his grandchildren.  Last summer we commemorated this milestone as we thanked all those who have supported us along the way. On behalf of the entire Muñoz family, I’d like to thank all our generous sponsors and donors. I’d especially like to recognize our golf committee, my brothers, who have supported me and our events all these years, Dan Dragoo, Art Esparza, Dino Giancanelli, Johnny Lima, Steve Nugent & Jeff Rudel. Without them (as well as their spouses & families), our charity would have never made it this far. Thank you also to all our volunteers. Finally, I’d like to thank my own family, Kirsten, Mark & Anthony for their love and support..
